Privacy Policy
In short: ScrapLog works entirely on your device. There is no account, no server and no analytics; subscriptions are handled by Apple. We do not collect, receive or store your photos, videos, notes or any other data. Your captures are kept in the app’s private storage, are not saved to your Photos library and are not included in iCloud or computer backups.
1. Who we are
ScrapLog is provided by Armin Miranda (AMRV), Werkstattstraße 12, 50733 Köln, Germany (“we”, “us”). He is the controller responsible for any processing of personal data described in this policy. Contact: amrvco@gmail.com. We are not required to appoint a data protection officer.
2. Data the app handles — on your device only
To do its job, the app stores the following on your device:
- Visits you create (visit name and date), each containing its piles.
- Photos and videos you capture in the app, including audio recorded with videos, plus any drawings and comments you add to photos (the original photo is kept unchanged next to the marked-up copy).
- Pile details you enter: pile names, metal type, ISRI grade, specs and notes.
- A company logo, if you choose one for your PDF reports. The image you pick is copied into the app’s storage in a downsized form; it is not uploaded, and it appears only in the reports you export yourself.
- App settings, such as your current visit and your favorite ISRI grades.
This data stays in the app’s private storage area on your device. It is not uploaded, synced or transmitted to us or to any third party by the app. We have no access to it.
Photos contain standard technical camera metadata (for example capture time and camera settings). The app does not request access to your location, so no GPS location is added to your captures.
3. Not saved to your Photos library
Captures are deliberately kept separate from your personal photos. The app never writes to your Photos library and does not request access to it. When you share or export, captures are handed over as plain files, so iOS does not offer “Save to Photos”, “Shared Albums” or other photo-library options. As a result, captures are also not included in iCloud Photos — unless you yourself save them there from another app you shared them to.
4. Device permissions
- Camera — to take photos and videos of piles. Used only while the capture screen is open.
- Microphone — requested the first time you record a video, and used only while a video is recording so you can narrate. If you decline, videos are recorded without sound.
While the camera is open, the volume buttons (and the Camera Control button where available) act as a shutter. The app only receives the button press itself; this does not involve any personal data.
You can change these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
5. Exporting and sharing
Data leaves the app only when you choose to export or share it — for example a PDF report, a ZIP with all files, or individual files via “Share”. PDF reports contain the visit and pile details, photo comments, (downsized) photos and, if you set one, your company logo. You then pick the destination in the iOS share sheet — such as the Files app, AirDrop, email or a messaging app. From that point on, the recipient and the service or app you chose are responsible for the data, under their own terms and privacy policies. We never receive a copy. Temporary files created for an export are deleted automatically.
6. Purchases (ScrapLog Pro)
ScrapLog Pro subscriptions are purchased through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes the payment and your Apple Account details under Apple’s own privacy policy; we do not receive your name, email address or payment details. The app checks whether a subscription is active directly on your device using Apple’s StoreKit (signed transaction information provided by Apple). We do not run a server for this and do not link purchases to your content. Apple provides us only with sales reports that do not identify you.
7. No tracking, analytics or advertising
The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services, and it does not track you across apps or websites.
8. Retention and deletion
Your data remains on your device until you delete it: individual captures, piles or whole visits (“Delete” in the visit list), or by deleting the app, which removes all of its data. Starting a new visit does not delete earlier visits. Because we hold no copy, we cannot restore deleted data.
9. Device backups
The iOS app excludes your visits, captures and details from iCloud Backup and from computer backups, so they never leave the device through a backup. As a consequence, if your device is lost, reset or replaced, or the app is deleted, this data cannot be restored — export visits you want to keep. Small app settings (such as favorites) may still be included in device backups by iOS.
10. Web version
If you use ScrapLog in a web browser instead of the iOS app, your captures and details are stored in your browser’s storage on your device (IndexedDB) and are not uploaded. When the web app is loaded, the provider hosting the website may process standard technical connection data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver the files. In the browser, the share options are controlled by your browser and operating system.
11. Support website
Our support website, including this policy, is hosted on GitHub Pages, a service of GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open it, GitHub processes technical connection data (such as IP address, date and time, requested page and browser type) to deliver the page and keep the service secure. The website sets no cookies and contains no analytics or tracking. GitHub may process this data in the USA; GitHub is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
12. Contacting us by email
If you email us, we process your email address, the content of your message and any attachments you send, only to answer your request. Legal basis: taking steps at your request or performing our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), otherwise our legitimate interest in answering enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Our email is provided by Google (Gmail). We delete the correspondence once your request is resolved, unless statutory retention periods require us to keep it longer.
13. Legal bases
Everything the app stores stays on your device and is not processed by us. Camera and microphone access is used only after you allow it in iOS, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in the iOS Settings app. The only personal data we process ourselves is described in sections 11 and 12, together with the legal bases stated there.
14. Children
ScrapLog is a business tool and is not directed at children.
15. Your rights
The app itself sends us no personal data, so we hold nothing from it that we could access, correct or delete for you. You control that data directly in the app. For personal data we do process (sections 11 and 12), you have the following rights under the GDPR:
- access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17) and restriction of processing (Art. 18);
- data portability (Art. 20);
- objection (Art. 21): you may object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR);
- lodging a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77). The authority responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen (LDI NRW), Düsseldorf, Germany.
Depending on where you live, other laws (for example the UK GDPR or US state privacy laws) may give you similar rights. To exercise your rights or ask a privacy question, contact amrvco@gmail.com.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when features change. The effective date above shows the latest version. Material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
